CART & CAPTIONING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN CHICAGO

Demand is growing across the country for people trained as Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) providers and captioners. Generations College offers CART and captioning courses as part of our Continuing Education Program.

Generations COLLEGE’S CART PROGRAM IN CHICAGO PROVIDES NEEDED TRAINING

CART providers work with the deaf and hard-of-hearing in many different settings including corporate, educational, legal, and medical; they often work in education settings such as a university or high school, assisting a person who is hard-of-hearing to progress through school. With new technology, providers of CART may even work from home and send their captions via Internet to the individual in class. Broadcast captioners use the same technology as court reporters to create the text which viewers see on the bottom of the television screen. They may caption live sports events, news, or other television programming.

This is a growing field. In fact, it is speculated that there will be thousands of job openings available in the coming years for people trained as CART providers and captioners. The opportunity can be lucrative for motivated professionals, too. Hourly wages are common for CART providers, with rates often from $50 to $75 per hour.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THIS KNOWLEDGE?

As a trained CART provider or captioner, you can help the deaf and hard of hearing in a variety of situations:
